The greatest abuse of the medical field has been in this area, both in unscientific theories about the brain and causes of behavior, and in the use of drugs to treat problem behavior. At the skeptically.org site are sections which address the issue of how the brain gives rise to the illusion of a mind, and on the crap in psychiatry which is dressed as science. This section address the third head of the Hydra, the pharmaceutical industry. Most psychiatric drugs when evaluated to include the side effects are not worth taking. I have seen over and over again the quality of life of my friends suffer through the use of drugs which impair cognitive functions. There are over a 140 drugs, many of which are used to treat other than psychiatric issues, such as the statins for the heart, and muscle relaxants for back pain.
